Translation

Description of the area:

Thiesi is an Italian town of 2,882 inhabitants in the province of Sassari. It is located in north-western Sardinia, in the historical sub-region of the Meilogu.

The area was inhabited since the Nuragic era, due to the presence of some nuraghi in the area.

During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Torres and was part of the Curatoria of Meiulocu. At the fall of the Giudicato (1259) the territory passed to the Genoese Doria family. At the end of the thirteenth century the territory was disputed by the latter, by the Malaspina and the Giudicato of Arborea, who took turns in governing the territory. After several clashes between the Dorias, allies of the Giudicato of Arborea, and the Aragonese (including the battle of Aidu de Turdu), the latter managed to conquer, among others, the territories of the former curatoria around 1347.

In 1636 the town was incorporated into the marquisate of Montemaggiore, a fief of the Manca.

In 1795 the town played a large part in the Sardinian revolutionary movements; in that year Thiesi was the center of the anti-feudal movement, and the feudal lord's building was destroyed. The following year the town welcomed the head of the movement Giovanni Maria Angioy. Other political motions occurred in the 1800s.

The town was redeemed by the last feudal lords of the Manca family in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system, when it became a municipality administered by a mayor and city council.
